After a five week break, the Joker+ CrossCup restarts with the Grand Prix de la Province de Liège in Hannut, a European Athletics Cross Country Permit Meeting. Belgium’s best cross-country runners are ready to challenge a strong international field.
Hannut is famous for its cross-country and this year marks the 73rd edition of this classic event, one of the oldest cross country meetings in Europe.
The women’s senior race features the under-23 champion from the SPAR European Cross Country Championships, Belgium’s Louise Carton who leads the CrossCup standings. She will face veteran runners Veerle Dejaeghere, Almensh Belete and Ethiopia’s Birtukan Alemu who finished fourth in Hannut last year.
Jeroen D’Hoedt, who missed the start of the season because of injuries, leads the Belgian men’s delegation with Koen Naert, Thomas Debock and Yannick Michiels.
Huge opposition is expected from Irish, German, Polish and Ukrainian contenders and of course from David Bett of Kenya and Dame Tasama of Ethiopia, winner of the Permit Meeting in Brussels at the end of last year.
