The Amsterdam Olympic Stadium will host the European Athletics Championships from 6-10 July.

A record number of 1,473 athletes from 50 countries have been entered for the 23rd European Athletics Championships to be held in Amsterdam from 6-10 July.

The previous record was set during the previous edition of the championships in Zürich, Switzerland, in 2014 when 1,439 athletes had been entered to compete.

European Athletics President, Svein Arne Hansen said: “We are delighted to see the strong level of interest from athletes and teams to compete in this year’s European Athletics Championships organised for the first time in the Netherlands.

“The City of Amsterdam is ready to host Europe’s best ‘like never before’ and I look forward to seeing new champions crowned.”

Germany send their biggest team since 1998 (110 athletes), while Great Britain & Northern Ireland present their largest ever squad with 103 athletes. Other large teams are coming from Spain (89), Ukraine (85), Italy (76), Poland (76) and France (73).

The most striking statistic can be seen in the numbers of participants in the new half marathon events to be held in downtown Amsterdam on the final day of the championships, where 192 runners will fight to become the first European half marathon champions!
