Glasgow 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships announced a new partnership with Glasgow International Airport for the upcoming Championships in March 2019 on Wednesday (31).

Carrying over nine million passengers per year, Glasgow Airport will play an essential role in welcoming some of the world’s leading athletes ahead of the Championships between 1-3 March 2019.

Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships and 2018 Commonwealth Games 2018 1500m bronze medallist, Jake Wightman, joined by Glasgow 2019 Championships Director Joanna Sutherland, Regional Director EventScotland Jim Clarkson, Glasgow Airport Managing Director Mark Johnston and Scottee – the recently unveiled Glasgow 2019 mascot – at the announcement.

Ahead of the Championships, Glasgow Airport will proudly display its support of the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships with in-airport branding and spread the word of what will undoubtedly be an unforgettable event for the city.

“With a major athletics event next on the cards for Glasgow it was important to obtain strong partnerships in order to make the Championships a truly unforgettable occasion and I’m so delighted Glasgow Airport has committed,” said Wightman.

“To have an institution like Glasgow Airport supporting us is fantastic and I’m sure by working together with the Championship team, they will make it a special campaign for this wonderful city.”

Six sessions have been scheduled across three action-packed days of competition T Glasgow 2019 and the full timetable can be seen here. More than 650 athletes are expected to compete at the Championships.

The Emirates Arena, built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, will stage the Championships and has a capacity of 5000, making it one of the largest indoor and hosts a diverse range of sporting events throughout the year.
