Vesely in a javelin battle with Pyatnytsya in Rovereto

The last of this year’s European Athletics Outdoor Premium Meeting will be the 48th Palio della Quercia in Rovereto tonight.

The highlight of the meeting from a European point of view will be the javelin duel between world leader Vitezslav Vesely of the Czech Republic and Olympic silver Oleksandr Pyatnytsa of the Ukraine.

In the women’s 400m, Italian record holder Libania Grenot, who has just run the second fastest 200m in Italian history, will be up against world leader Antonina Krivoshapka of Russia and strong Jamaicans Patricia Hall and Shericka Williams.

Jamaican Lerone Clarke is the top name in men´s 100m while in the 400m Cuban hurdler Omar Cisneros clashes with Calvin Smith of the US and Rusheen McDonald of Jamaica.

Young Kenyan Edwin Melly is the top favorite in the 800m. In the 5000m, Italy’s European Athletics Championships’ medallist Daniele Meucci is up against Britain’s Andy Baddeley and Hayle Ibrahimov of Azerbaijan apart from some strong Africans.

Belarus’s Maksim Lynsha is the hurdles favorite as is world junior record holder Sergey Morgunov of Russia in the long jump who faces Olympic triple jump bronze Fabrizio Donato of Italy.

In the 100m European champion Ivet Lalova of Bulgaria will clash with European 200m gold Mariya Ryemyen of the Ukraine and the USA's Alexandria Anderson.

Other favorites in the high jump are Anna Iljustsenko of Estonia, 100m hurdles Czech star Lucie Skrobakova, shot putter Natalia Mikhnevich of the Ukraine. The start list of triple jump features legendary Russian Tatyana Lebedeva.

The women’s 1500m will see 2011 world champion Jenny Simpson of the USA and Kenyan Eunice Sum battle against Europeans runners like Anna Mischchenko of Ukraine and Spain’s Natalia Rodriguez.
