Ottey confirms Birmingham appearance

Merlene Ottey, arguably one of the World's greatest ever female sprinters, has confirmed her attendance at this year's European Athletics Indoor Championships, scheduled to take place in Birmingham in one week's time.
The former World Champion who now represents Slovenia is entered in the 100m in what will be her first ever European Athletics Indoor event. Incredibly, the 46 year old sprinter, who made the semi-finals in Gothenburg last summer will be up against athletes who weren't even born at a time when she was competing in her first Olympic Games.
Ottey said: "I will continue to run as long as I am capable of achieving good results." She proved she can when she beat her own World Masters Indoor Record for the 45+ category in a time of 7.30secs earlier this season. She knows that is she can stay fit she's in with a chance of reaching the finals in Birmingham.
