International Festival of Athletics Coaching to take place in Loughborough

Loughborough University will play host to the International Festival of Coaching from 4-6 January 2019

The rescheduled International Festival of Athletics Coaching (IFAC) will now take place at Loughborough University from 4-6 January 2019 as part of the annual European Athletics Coaching Summit Series, a key part of European Athletics’ coaching strategy.

The UK Elite Athlete Centre in Loughborough will host three days of sessions, each one with different coaching focus. IFAC brings together the finest coaching and performance experts in the world and offers a wide range of high value workshops, covering all disciplines.

This year’s programme features an expanded number and variety of practical workshops and demonstrations (multi-events, speed, endurance, strength) to deliver something for all types of attendees regardless of their level, experience or expertise. The festival represents a brilliant opportunity to build a personal development networks all the way from club to international level.

The focus on the first day will be on how technology and science is integrated into informing coach-decision making, what sort of technology is available and how to use it effectively in coaching and performance programmes. Notable speakers include British coach and former international athlete Shaun Pickering and Dr. Steve Ingham, performance scientist for Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Swiss international coach and thrower Martin Bingisser will lead with a presentation on the second day on current thinking of functional strength and conditioning. Workshop leaders Jerome Simian, Gunter Lange, Jonas Dodoo and Rene Sack will then guide coaches through the Athletic Fitness Development Pathway for a new structuring of dedicated focus groups on speed development, strength development, endurance development and finally putting the plan together.

On the final day, the focus will be on making coaching excellence a reality and how to develop athletes from school and club to high performance athletes. Keynote speakers include Frank Dick and Gunter Lange with more speakers and coaches to be announced in upcoming weeks.
