European Athletics Council Member Toralf Nilsson has begun 2008 with a new challenge as he was recently appointed the Director for the Cultural Affairs and Leisure Department in Huddinge Municipality, Sweden.
The 44 year-old has also been appointed onto the Board of Directors of the municipality.
The department has 165 employees and an annual budget of approximately €18m. Huddinge, which is situated 5km south of Stockholm, has 90,000 inhabitants, and athletics holds a central place in the area.
It also has a strong local athletics club, Huddinge AIS, which is one of the top ten clubs in Sweden and organised the European Cup in Combined Events 1999.
As the former General Secretary for the 19th European Athletics Championships in Goteborg 2006, it will be interesting to see how many other events take place in Huddeinge in the future!
