Cyper-Multi-Event winner
Thomas Cosworth. |
Sixteen year-old Thomas Cusworth from Wales is Europe's first ever "Cyber-Multi-Events Competition" Champion.
The inaugural competition set up to encourage young people to participate more in athletics focused on the 200m, the High Jump and the Javelin, with coaches asked to record the performances of their participants from 01-07 September and email them to the ‘Cyber Organisers'.
All results were compiled and the best overall male and female athletes were awarded £25.00 (32 Euros) courtesy of event sponsor Neuff Athletics, with the best in each age group also awarded a small cash prize.
The ‘Cyber Organisers' were really keen to develop this competition to encourage young people to try different events and have a sense of competing, without having to travel all over the continent. Charles Mitchell the brain child behind the event said:
"The Cyber 3 Event Competition is an easy way for Young Athletes to compete Internationally from their own training track- all they have to do is submit results verified by a recognised Coach, and the Athletes have a 10 day period to enter for each series."
"We believe it is really important for young athletes to try a variety of events, whether they later decide to specialise in one discipline, or carry on in the Multi-Event discipline."
"We are delighted that European Athletics has been so supportive in promoting our event; hopefully some of these young athletes will continue to develop and enjoy participating in the exciting new competition structures that they are introducing."
Following the success of this inaugural event another Cyber-Multi Event is being planned to take place between the 14 - 24 December 2008, this time focussing on 60m, Long Jump and Shot Put.
Athletes from any country can compete from their local training facility (as long as a coach is present to record results) or from an event - though all 3 events should take place on the same day.
The competition is completely free to enter and will be open to any athlete born in the following years: 1992,1993,1994,1995.
