Two course records in Istanbul Eurasia Marathon
| 06.11.2006
Turkey over
the weekend saw the 28th Istanbul Eurasia
Marathon - incorporating the European Police Championships - set
off from the Bosporus Bridge on its way from Asia to Europe with Lithuania's
Mindaugas Pukstas (men) and Russia's Madina Biktagirova (women) eventually taking the honours with course records of 2:12:49, and 2:28:18 respectively.
Indeed, such
were the conditions and strength of the field that the first four in the men's
race crossed the line inside the old course record of 2:13:37 set in 1997 by
Ethiopian Taye Moges.
It was a
rewarding weekend for the Ukrainian police force when Andriy Naumov added the
title of European Police Champion to his second overall place in the marathon, while
Valentina Poltavska took the women's equivalent in 2:40:42.
