Europe claims most medals at IAAF World Championships with haul of 52
Europe claimed the most medals out of the Area Associations at the IAAF World Championships which ended Sunday evening in Daegu. Europe finished with an impressive haul of 52 medals, including 16 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze.
North America finished with a total of 45 medals, claiming 17 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze medals.
Africa won nine gold medals, ten silver and eleven bronze for 30 medals overall, while the Asian continent won two gold, three silver and two bronze for 7 medals.
Oceania claimed two gold and one silver and one bronze medal.
South America won one gold, and two silver medals.
Russia came out as the top European country with nine gold medals, four silver and six bronze for a total of 17.
The Russians finished ahead of Germany, who won three golds, three silvers and one bronze medal, and Great Britain, who claimed two gold medals, four silvers and one bronze.
