Alemayehu Bezabeh will shoulder Spanish
expectations in Brussels.

Reigning SPAR European Cross Country champions Spain have announced a strong 36-member contingent to defend their title in Brussels on December 14. Spain presently hold the team titles in both men and women category.

The 15th edition of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships will be the ideal opportunity for red-hot Alemayehu Bezabeh to stake his claim for the top European title in the men's category, while bronze medal winner at the last edition of the championship Rosa Morato has been primed to spearhead the women's campaign.

The team was announced on the basis of short-list provided by the Technical Committee of the Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), on the basis of cross country performances this season.

22-year-old Bezabeh has been the star performer in the current Spanish season, amply demonstrated by his three podiums finishes in as many races. Starting with top prize at Atapuerca Cross, a bronze at Cross of Soria, and again a third place finish last Sunday in the Valle de Llodio Cross.

On the other hand Rosa Morato, the current national champion, will arrive in Brussels in perfect condition to better her bronze medal finish in Toro 2007. Morató was the best Spanish athlete at both Soria and Llodio, while she won the top prize at the Cross de Quintanar. At Atapuerca she finished second behind compatriot Nuria Fernandez, who has also been selected in the squad for Brussels.

Jose Ignacio Fernandez has been appointed as team leader.
