 | European Athlete of the Month for October Ines Monteiro of Portugal will be seen in action at the Cross Internacional Valle de Llodio, in Llodio, Spain, on Sunday. | A number of top stars have lined up for Sunday's Cross Internacional Valle de Llodio, a European Athletics Cross Country Permit race, to be held in Llodio, Spain.
Besides home star and steeple specialist Rosa Morato and European Athlete of the Month for October Ines Monteiro of Portugal, the race also boasts the presence of defending champion and 10000m world champion Linet Masai of Kenya.
Masai will be participating in her first race since a 10-mile challenge on the road in September. Berlin bronze medallist in 3000m steeplechase Milcah Chemos of Kenya will also be in contention for the title.
A European athlete is yet to win the title in Llodio since Hungarian Aniko Kalovics' victory in 2005.
In the men's race over 9.76 km, Kenyan Leonard Komon, a bronze medallist at the 2008 World Cross Country Championships, will offer the biggest challenge to the European brigade led by Sweden's Mustafa Mohamed.
The home hopes will rest on national Cross Country champion Alemayehu Bezabeh, Carles Castillejo and Sergio Sanchez. Bezabeh has been in peak form from the start of the season. He bagged the top prize in Quintanar and finished second at the season opener Cross de Atapuerca in Burgos.
Castillejo and Sanchez will be hoping for a good performance in front of the home crowd to book their place in the Dublin-bound Spanish squad.
Former 10000m world junior record holder Boniface Kiprop of Uganda is making a return after being forced to miss the outdoor season due to a groin injury.
