  • Augusto wins her fourth São Silvestre de Lisboa

Jessica Augusto notched up her fourth win at the traditional end-of-year São Silvestre de Lisboa – a 5-star Running For All race – over 10km in the Portuguese capital on Saturday evening.

The 2010 SPAR European Cross Country Championships gold medallist won in 33:52, coming home 40 seconds in front of fellow Portuguese international Marta Pen.

“I gave my best to win the women’s, that was my goal, because I won the first edition (in 2008) here and I also wanted to win the 10th race. Compared to last year I am not so fit, but I finished feeling good because winning is always motivating, ' reflected Augusto, who also won the race in 2010 and 2016.

In the north of Portugal, the 24th Sao Silvestre Cidade do Porto was won by Rui Pedro Silva in 29:56. Second was Andre Pereira 30:32 while Salome Rocha won the women’s race in 34:35 with Cristiana Valente second in 35:28.

The Sao Silvestre Cidade do Porto, another 5-star Running For All race, boast of being the largest of Portugal’s many end-or-year mass participation races and this year had a 10,000 limit on entries.
