  • Bukowiecki continues excellent recent form with 21.99m in Karpacz

Poland’s Konrad Bukowiecki amassed his third competition in excess of 21.90m in the space of a week in Karpacz on Thursday (12).

After throwing 21.91m in the Brussels Diamond League on Friday, Bukowiecki improved by one centimetre to 21.92m to finish second to the United States’ Darrell Hill at The Match in Minsk on Monday night.

The 22-metre line narrowly eluded Bukowiecki again this evening but his winning throw of 21.99m represented an outdoor lifetime best as well as an improvement on his European outdoor U23 record of 21.97m from the Rome Diamond League earlier this year.

Bukowiecki was only one centimetre shy of his outright lifetime best of 22.00m which dates back to the indoor season last year and he is eager to return to the 22-metre plus form which will be necessary to contend for medals at the IAAF World Championships in Doha which begin later this month.

“We did not succeed today [in surpassing 22 metres] but in two days’ time I will compete again in Chorzow. I will certainly try to get another great result at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial,” he told PZLA after the competition.

Bukowiecki’s winning mark was also preceded by another respectable effort of 21.87m but all five of his valid throws would have beaten runner-up Jakub Szyszkowski with 20.28.

Bukowiecki was competing at the opening of the new stadium in Karpacz which will be named after the legendary Irena Szewinska who passed away last year.

Other highlights included Piotr Lisek clearing 5.80m in the pole vault and Piotr Malachowski winning the discus with 63.56m.
