World U18 leaders Max Burgin and Dominic Ogbechie are two of the most prominent names in the 33-strong Great Britain team going to the Gyor 2018 European Athletics U18 Championships.

The second edition of these championships will take place in the Hungarian city between 5-8 July.

Burgin set a European U16 best over 800m earlier this year, clocking 1:47.50 in May, while high jumper Ogbechie cleared a world age-15 best of 2.22m indoors this winter and has backed that up with several good displays outdoors, including a recent 2.16m to win the England U20 title.

European U18 leaders Keely Hodgkinson, Kane Elliott and Thomas Keen are selected for the the women’s 800m, men’s 1500m and 3000m respectively. Keen will be accompanied in the 3000m by the second fastest European U18 runner, Rory Leonard.

In the men’s 400m, Ben Pattison and Ethan Brown are second and third in the European U18 lists and so they will also eyeing the podium places in a big to emulate the performances of the British team in Tbilisi two years ago.

Great Britain topped the medal table at the first edition of these championships in 2016, winning five gold medals and 13 overall.

“We are very pleased to have selected such a strong squad of athletes. It is a great opportunity for these young athletes to compete on the international stage and I’m excited to see how they perform on this stage and what they can learn from their experience,” commented Great Britain team leader Femi Akinsaya.
