Double shot put world champion David Storl will be the face of the next German Indoor Championships in Leipzig on 22-23 February 2014.

“I am happy to have been selected for the poster design,” Storl said at a press conference held in Leipzig on 3 December.

Storl has been a guarantor of success for the German team, winning medals at all major events in recent years.

The youngest German double world champion expects to perform well in the event which will also serve as a qualification for the 2013 IAAF Indoor Championships in Sopot, with only two athletes qualifying in each event.

“I hope to throw over 21 metres and win the title,” he said.

Idriss Gonschinska, head coach of the German Athletics Federation, sees the national championships as “an important intermediate stage for the athletes” with regards to the European Athletics Championships in Zurich 12-17 August.

Storl, the 2011 European Athletics Rising Star, will be joined by over 500 German athletes during the two-day event.

The jumping events will be especially promising with Raphael Holzdeppe, Bjorn Otto and Malte Mohr battling for victory in the pole vault. Unfortunately one of them will be left out of the World Indoor Championships.

In the long jump, the duel between European champions Christian Reif and Sebastian Bayer will fascinate viewers.

Verena Sailer, European 100m champion from Barcelona, will compete in the 60m.

Event director Frank Kowalski announced at the same press conference that 4,400 out of 7,500 tickets have already been sold, with the event expected to be a sell-out.
