European Athletics hosted its biggest-ever event bidding seminar for the 2020 European Athletics Championships and 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Lausanne on Monday 6 July.

Member Federations from seven different countries, Belarus, Bulgaria, France, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Georgia, the Netherlands and Poland, attended the seminar outlining the requirements for hosting European Athletics’ flagship indoor and outdoor events.

The bidding seminar was chaired by European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen, accompanied by the newly formed Evaluation Commission composed of Luciano Barra, John Lister, Karel Pilny and Pierre Weiss, as part of the new structure decided by the Executive Board.

President Hansen said: 'It's promising to have several potential bidders for our main events. European Athletics has developed a comprehensive bidding process with a well-structured and transparent procedure which provides clear timelines and tools to help organise these events.'

Great Britain and Poland have declared an interest in hosting either the 2020 European Athletics Championships or 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships.

France and Georgia are interested in hosting the 2020 European Athletics Championships, while Belarus, Bulgaria and the Netherlands have shown interest in hosting the 2019 European indoors.

Both events will be attributed by the European Athletics Council at its meeting in May 2016. Bidders have until 24 July to confirm their bids.

The 2016 European Athletics Championships will be held in Amsterdam with the 2018 championships in Berlin. The 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Belgrade.
