European Athletics is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Croatia’s Ivan Ivancic at the age of 76.

Ivancic was a great athlete and is considered as the best Croatian throwing coach of all times.

He recognised Sandra Perkovic’s discus throwing talent and led her to becoming the youngest European Athletics discus champion in 2010, followed by an Olympic gold medal at the London 2012 Games, Croatia’s first athletics gold medal ever.

His personal career as an athlete was highlighted by two European indoor bronze medals in 1980 and 1983.

Ivancic truly dedicated his life to athletics and continued to develop young athletes, by passing down his invaluable knowledge until the final days of his life.
