European Athletics organised a One-Day Meetings Seminar in partnership with EuroMeetings in Barcelona, Spain, from 4-6 April with 36 meeting organisers in attendance to discuss the future of athletics meetings in Europe.

The participants discussed ways to better link championships and meetings as well as the idea of experimenting with new competition formats.

European Athletics 1st Vice President Jose Luis de Carlos, who chairs the Competition Commission, said, “We are delighted that so many representatives from important meetings from both European Athletics and the IAAF permit system participated in the seminar.

'It was an ideal opportunity for the meeting organisers to get a common understanding of our unified goal – development of the sport of athletics. The discussions were constructive and fruitful. I do hope that they benefitted from the seminar.”

Rajne Soderberg, President of EuroMeetings said, “One-day meetings are at the heart of our sport. They are the windows where we can test waters, and try out new things in order to expand the appeal and understanding of our sport.

“Some very good ideas were shared during the one-and-a-half day seminar in Barcelona. I hope the participants benefitted from the opportunity and will continue to serve the sport in an even better way in future.”
