Members of the 2018 European Championships Board came together in Berlin on Wednesday 22 November for the latest Board meeting ahead of the inaugural multi-sport event next year in Glasgow and Berlin.

Host cities Glasgow and Berlin, Broadcast Partner European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and European Championships Management (ECM) gave project updates to the seven participating sports.

The European Championships is a major new multi-sport event taking place every four years, supported by Europe’s free-to-air broadcasters which aggregates the existing senior continental championships of Athletics (European Athletics), Aquatics (LEN), Cycling (UEC), Gymnastics (UEG), Rowing (FISA), Triathlon (ETU), with a new Golf Team Championships (ET & LET) – all unified under a common brand.

In the Board meeting, there were also updates from the Brand and Communication Working Groups coordinated by ECM.

In the update from Berlin 2018, LOC CEO Frank Kowalski confirmed that over 100,000 tickets have been sold for the athletics at the Olympic Stadium – a record at this stage ahead of a European Athletics Championships.

Glasgow 2018 Championships Director Colin Hartley said: “We were pleased to inform the EC2018 Board on the 3.7 million GBP Olympic-standard BMX track that is being built in the city and the 10,000-plus applications from 89 different countries that we have received for volunteering at Glasgow 2018.”

European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen said on Twitter: “Very pleased to co-chair another excellent Board meeting for Berlin-Glasgow 2018 European Championships today. All 7 participating sports, 2 Host Cities & Broadcast Partner EBU are fully committed to the ultimate multi-sport event to promote our sports on the continent.”
