Perched in a beautiful setting between the mountains in Byrkjelo, Jakob Ingebrigtsen was celebrating again on Saturday.

A week after completing his double gold medal glory at the European Championships in Berlin, the 17-year-old triumphed in the 1500m at the Norwegian Championships.

In windy and rainy conditions, Ingebrigtsen, the European 1500m and 5000m champion – the first man to ever achieve this double – moved to the front at the bell and ran away from the field with a sub-54 second last lap.

He won in 4:03.54, celebrating before the line, as he triumphed by almost three seconds from Ferdinand Kaan Edman in 4:06.44 and Mats Hauge in 4:07.41. Not even a stray umbrella which blew across the track in the path of the runners could halt the teenager’s ascent.

But after his sensational summer, it is back to Sandnes High School for the teenage superstar.

“There's not much social life outside of the family since we've been travelling all summer, so it's good to get back to that environment again,” said Jakob, speaking to vg.no.

“The school is a haven for him,” his coach and father Gjert told vg.no. “There he is just Jakob - he is just one among many pupils. He likes that very much. He does not need a bunch of people reminding him that he is a European champion.”

It was another good championships for the Ingebrigtsen family. On Friday, on the first day of the event, Henrik won the 5000m in 14:13.80 from Orjan Gronnevig in 14:22.06.

But on the final day on Sunday, there was defeat for Filip in the 800m final as Thomas Roth produced a fine run to beat him in a tight finish, 1:50.63 to 1:50.78.

The season is by no means over for the Ingebrigtsens with Jakob and Henrik both due to compete at the IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava on 8-9 September in the 1500m and 5000m respectively.

Karsten Warholm is fresh from another glorious championships after winning the 400m hurdles title at the European Championships and this weekend he was honoured by receiving the Norwegian Athletics Association gold medal.

And to celebrate, he became a double national champion again with victory in the 400m hurdles on Friday in 49.01 and then the 400m flat a day later in terrible conditions in 47.32.

In the sprint hurdles, Isabelle Pedersen won in 13.04 and Vladimir Vukicevic won in 13.84. Jonathan Quarcoo took the 200m title in 20.84 and Marcus Thomsen achieved a personal best of 19.82m for victory in the shot put.

Kirt achieves a fine win on home soil in Parnu

It was quite a 24 hours for Estonia’s Magnus Kirt. On Saturday, Kirt produced a last round throw of 85.31m to finish third in the IAAF Diamond League in Birmingham and then immediately back home, he won with 84.43m at the Parnu Athletics Meeting on Sunday (19).

Also competing on back-to-back days, Sweden’s Simon Pettersson improved on his runner-up finish in Gothenburg on Saturday evening with victory with 63.54m from Estonia’s Martin Kupper with 62.41m with his fellow countryman Gerd Kanter in fifth with 60.43m.

A distance of 20.33m brought shot put success for Bosnia & Herzegovina's Mesud Pezer and Authorised Neutral Athlete Sofiya Palkina won the hammer with 69.86m. Ukraine's Krystyna Hrushtyina cleared 6.61m to win the long jump.

In Zlin, Czech Republic, national record-holder Radek Juska won the long jump with 8.16m on Saturday but he would have had good reason to feel frustrated. At the European Championships he finished 12th in the final with a best of 7.73m, whereas a leap of 8.16m would have brought him silver.

There were Czech Republic vs. Slovakia duels in the sprints. In the 100m, Zdenek Stromsik from the Czech Republic won in 10.49 to beat Slovakia’s Jan Volko in 10.50. Volko won the 200m in 20.93 from Stromsik, who set a lifetime best of 21.13.

Klara Seidlova achieved a fine sprint double, as she took the 100m in in 11.48 and then equalled her personal best in the 200m with 23.66.

In Trnava, Slovakia’s Maria Czakova, who was sixth in the inaugural staging of the 50km race walk at the European Championships in Berlin, was quickly back in action. She won the 5000m track walk at the Slovak League the 5000m in 22:52.35.

Fresh from winning a bronze medal at the European Championships, Hungary’s Bence Halasz won the hammer on home soil in Tapolca with 75.79m and Reka Gyuratz won the women’s competition with 69.25m.

in Tullamore, Ireland’s Marcus Lawler won the 200m at Clubs League Final in 20.74 ahead of Jamaican Travane Morrison in 20.91.
