If 2014 was amazing for Renaud Lavillenie, could he be planning to go even higher in 2015?

Lavillenie broke the pole vault world record with his amazing 6.16m last February and might be warming up for something special again this winter as she showed in Rouen on Saturday when the Frenchman cleared 6.00m and then attempted 6.10m in front of a packed crowd at the Stade Sottevillais.

It was some performance for a man who just maintains this incredible consistency as he moved to six metres after clearing 5.70m and 5.86m at the first attempt.

With three individual personal bests, let alone her finest score for the event itself, Eliska Klucinova has soared to the top of the world rankings for the pentathlon this weekend. With the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague just six weeks away, this multi-eventer from the Czech Republic has put herself on the medal radar in superb fashion.

And what a place to do it - in Apeldoorn and in front of Dutch star Dafne Schippers.

The competition was a Combined Events International match which saw Schippers competing for the first time this year.

She ran 7.20 for the 60m - 12 months ago she ran 7.28 at the same meeting - as she heads to Prague possibly to run just the individual event.

Yet Schippers, the female European Athlete of the Year who won double sprint gold in Zurich last summer, remains one of the world’s best multi-eventers.

She was third in Götzis in 2014 and is likely to face Klucinova this year.

Klucinova produced personal bests of 8.70 in the 60m hurdles, 1.86m in the high jump and 2:19.02 in the 800m for a score of 4531 points as she beat Great Britain’s Jessica Taylor whose 4249 was also a personal best total.

There was double delight for the Czech Republic in Apeldoorn as Adam Sebastian Helcelet, the European under-23 decathlon bronze medallist, won the heptathlon with 5830, beating Spain’s Jorge Urena. His 5775 was a national under-23 record.

It was a good weekend for European multi-eventing as the progress of Britain’s Morgan Lake took her to a new level on Sunday.

In 2014, Lake, 17, won gold in both the heptathlon and high jump at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Oregon and along with Prague, ahead lies possibly both the European Athletics Junior and U23 Championships.

Lake won the women’s under-23 pentathlon at the Combined Events International Match with 4448 points in Ogent-Sur-Oise.

There are 47 meetings across Europe this week, with full details at www.european-athletics.org/calendar
