Adam Gemili will not be tempted to double up just yet in his pursuit of honours.

It has been a year to savour for the Great Britain sprinter who was rewarded for his four medals by being named the male Rising Star at the Golden Tracks awards ceremony in Baku last weekend.

At 21, he has an exciting future, now with the foundation of being the European 200m champion and Commonwealth 100m silver medallist.

But as he reflected on the past 12 months and looked ahead to 2015, he is in no rush to overstretch himself too soon.

Gemili said: 'I’m still growing and maturing. I’m not going to go to major championships and double up at the moment.

'I’ve been competitive and won medals in both events this year, so one day when I am older, I can potentially do that if I feel I am able to.”

In a fascinating insight into his preparation, Gemili has been speaking to British Athletics for their 'On Track With…' feature and he set out his outdoor plans for next year.

He said: 'I’ve got the European U23 Championships and the World Championships in Beijing. These are the two which I have to consider and which event I do at each will be decided closer to the time depending on how training is going.'

The European Athletics U23 Championships take place in Tallinn and Gemili would go there as the defending 100m champion after he won in 10.20 in Tampere in 2013.

His progression since then saw him produce a brilliant run to win the 200m in Zurich this summer in 19.98 in a summer where he also won 4x100m relay gold for Great Britain at the European Athletics Championships and silver for Team England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Gemili added: 'At the Europeans I knew I was one of the top ranked in the 200m, so the aim was to walk away as the champion and to achieve that was an awesome feeling.'

And then after all the success came the award last weekend in Baku, a trophy he will cherish.

Gemili said: 'Just to be nominated is a great thing. I was nominated last year but didn’t win.

'To win it and be recognised for your achievements, not just in Britain but among all the European athletes is quite special, and I was proud to collect the honour.”

While the Olympic Games in Rio is less than two years away, it may not be until Tokyo in 2020 that Gemili reaches his peak on that stage.

But he is taking it all in his stride and it is a policy where the outcome so far has been pretty impressive.
