  • Over 50% tickets already sold for European Athletics Indoor Championships

The European Athletics Indoor Championships in Prague are just around the corner and more than half the tickets available have already been sold.

There are only about 1,000 tickets left for the afternoon sessions on both Saturday and Sunday so it is recommended fans move fast in order to purchase some of the remaining tickets.

“We launched the ticket sales just before the beginning of the European Athletics Championships in Zurich and we have already exceeded the magic threshold of 50 percent tickets sold. We consider this a big success especially since Czech fans usually purchase tickets at the last minute,” said the President of the local organising committee, Libor Varhaník.

Athletics fans will have a unique opportunity to see Europe’s best competing in what is the most prestigious event the Czech Republic has hosted since the Prague 1978 European Athletics Championships.

We deliberately chose to make the ticket prices affordable so that everyone can come to support. The cheapest tickets for the morning sessions cost 150 CZK (6 EUR),” said the executive director of the championships, Tomáš Jank…¯.

The most attractive part of the programme – Saturday and Sunday afternoon with the final sessions – is almost sold out.

“We reached the level of 90 percent capacity for Saturday and Sunday afternoon. So, I would like to address athletics fans that are interested and want to come to support the Czech national team to buy the tickets as soon as possible,”Jank…¯ continued.

The Czech national team will be motivated to show their talent in front of the home crowd. Most local athletes are preparing specifically for the event, hoping to earn medals for their country.

Several former athletes are also involved within the organisation of the championships.

Former world class high jumper Tomáš Jank…¯ is the executive director, Helena Fibingerová, an incredible shot putter and eight-time European indoor champion, is director of the ambassador’s project.

Even though the javelin is not an indoor event, double Olympic champion Barbora Å potáková is also involved in promoting the European Athletics Indoor Championships. She agreed to make a short video to support the ticket sales found under 'Related Links'.

“The European Athletics Indoor Championships will be a big festival, especially for the Czech fans. As a javelin thrower, I cannot compete in front of the home crowd, but I had the chance to be present when it was decided that Prague would host the championships. And now, I wanted to somehow support the event,” says the athlete coached by Jan …½elezný.

The video spot was shot in a local restaurant called U Pinkas…¯, in existence since the 19th century. It is one of Prague’s traditional icons and still attracts numerous customers.

Barbora Å potáková used to live for many years in the old centre of Prague and the U Pinkas…¯ is her favourite restaurant for classical Czech cuisine and beer.

Prague 2015 will take place 6-8 March, with the event also supported by a number of sponsors including International Partners Spar, Omega, Le Gruyère AOP and Eurovision.
