European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz gave a keynote speech about the state of our sport entitled ‘Where is Athletics today’ at the Eurovision Sports Assembly in Geneva on Thursday.
President Wirz looked to the future in what is his final few weeks at the helm of European Athletics, and said it is a necessity to link the format of future European Athletics Championships to a comprehensive qualification system for the championships and including the one-day meetings structure within this system.
While at the EBU headquarters, President Wirz met with EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre following the renewal of European Athletics’ worldwide media rights contract with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The long-running partnership, which has been in place since 1981, has been extended for the period 2016-2019.
