The accolades keep on rolling in for world javelin champion Barbora Spotakova who was named Czech Athlete of the Year for a record ninth time at the annual gala held at the Ambassador Hotel in Prague and televised live on Czech national television.

Now 36, Spotakova came back to regain her world title in London a full decade after claiming the title for the first title in Osaka. While her gold medal was the crowning moment of her season, Spotakova also claimed the Diamond League trophy in Zurich and her season’s best of 68.26m was her best throw since the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Spotakova topped the polls with 1650 points ahead of Jakub Vadlejch and Petr Frydrych - the silver and bronze medallists respectively in the men’s javelin at the World Championships in London behind Germany’s Johannes Vetter.

Vadlejch and Frydrych are both coached by the long-time world record-holder Jan Zelezny who was duly named Coach of the Year for the fifth time, equalling the record held by Dalibor Kupka - the former coach of Roman Sebrle and Zuzana Hejnova.

European U20 high jump champion and world senior finalist Michaela Hruba was named Czech Junior Athlete of the Year ahead of world U18 400m champion Barbora Malikova who was named Breakthrough Athlete of the Year ahead of European U20 javelin champion Nikol Tabackova.
