Two of the three shot putters who surpassed the 22 metre-line indoors in 2018 will headline the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava, a European Athletics Indoor Permit Meeting, on 12 February.

Tomas Stanek opened his season with victory in Ostrava with 21.61m and he will be looking to win again on home soil next year. Stanek also won the IAAF World Indoor Tour in 2018 - his most notable performance coming in Dusseldorf where he reached out to 22.17m to move to eighth on the world indoor all-time lists.

After winning bronze at the IAAF World Indoor Championships, Stanek had to settle for fourth at the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships but he concluded an injury disrupted outdoor campaign with a season’s best of 21.87m in Zurich to move to second on the 2018 European lists.

Stanek will face his long-time continental rival Konrad Bukowiecki from Poland who beat the Czech for the European indoor title in Belgrade in 2017. Bukowiecki also made headlines during the indoor season when he improved his European U23 record to 22.00m in Torun to Stanek’s 21.83m.

Bukowiecki’s season was also affected by a persistent finger injury but he came good in Berlin where he won his first major outdoor season medal with silver behind teammate Michal Haratyk.

There will be a strong Polish contingent in action across the board in Ostrava. European 1500m silver medallist Sofia Ennaoui is confirmed for her specialist event and reigning European U23 100m champion Ewa Swoboda will compete over 60m.
