The Strategic Communications Commission gathered in Dubrovnik, Croatia from 24-25 September, led by European Athletics First Vice President and Commission Chair Dobromir Karamarinov.
After an overview of European Athletics’ activities since the last meeting in Kiev at the start of April, the Commission discussed the upcoming IAAF Congress and proposed IAAF Governance Structure Reform.
The Commission then focused on reforms to the European Athletics Championships and European Athletics Team Championships. European Athletics is looking at an innovative qualification system for the European Athletics Championships, while the European Athletics Team Championships will become a biannual event staged over three days instead of two.
The members looked ahead to the upcoming European Athletics Convention which will take place in Funchal, Portugal from 13-15 October. The Convention will conclude with the Golden Tracks award ceremony where the male and female European Athletes of the Year - along with the Rising Stars - will be honoured.
Following an overview of the Strategic Communications Commission Working Groups, the Commission then discussed European Athletics’ projects including the European Week of Sport and Young Leaders’ Community/Erasmus+ followed by discussions on development support, anti-doping and the proposed anti-doping licence.
The Strategic Communications Commission will next gather in Pravets, Bulgaria, in April 2017.
The Strategic Communications Commission members present at the meeting were Dobromir Karamarinov (Chair, BUL), Olga Aksyonova (UKR), Nikolin Dionisi (ALB), Robert Emmiyan (ARM), Marton Gyulai (HUN), Sirje Lippe (EST), Julien Mauriat (FRA), Ieva Staponkute (LTU), Salih Münir Yaras (TUR), Luka Steiner (SLO), and James Mulligan representing the Head Office as Deputy Chair.
Also assisting with the commission’s work is Head of the President’s Cabinet Bill Glad.
