The Strategic Communications Commission gathered in Kyiv from 1-3 April, led by European Athletics First Vice President and Commission Chair Dobromir Karamarinov.
IAAF Senior Vice President Sergey Bubka and Ukrainian Athletics Federation President Ihor Hotsul gave a warm and hospitable welcome to Commission members over the course of the weekend.
Karamarinov, also President of the Balkan Athletics Federation, presented an overview of activities since the previous commission meeting and looked back at how European Athletics had communicated during specific moments.
Members focused on the organisation's response to the doping and corruption cases that have hit the sport of athletics.
Among other topics was the launch of a promotional ticket sales campaign ahead of the Amsterdam 2016 European Athletics Championships with an emphasis on social media to target specific audiences.
Members then discussed the multi-sport European Championships concept to take place in Berlin and Glasgow in 2018, as well as the European Athletics Running for All initiative which has seen rapid growth.
Chairman Karamarinov is set to deliver a presentation during the upcoming CEO Conference entitled “The Role of Strategic Communications in Brand Building” taking in suggestions and outlining recommendations from members of the Commission.
The next Commission meeting takes place in Dubrovnik from 23-25 September.

Also assisting with the commission’s work is the Head of President’s Cabinet Bill Glad.
