Today marks five days to go until the first ever European Athletics e-Convention and the finishing touches are being put into place ahead of a stimulating, insightful and action-packed three day programme which commences on 14 October.

This year’s e-Convention programme which will be officially opened by European Athletics Interim President Dobromir Karamarinov from Lausanne incorporates the Digital Forum for the first time as a follow-up to the Data Conference which was held in October 2018.

Split up into two sessions, the first session aims to assess the digital maturity of Member Federations and the future of data management in athletics.

This second session consists of presentations on innovative solutions, softwares, apps or new technology features available on existing apps to further promote athletics as well as a discussion on Member Federations’ advancement with GDPR.

Standout speakers for the Digital Forum include Chief Information Officer at World Athletics An Dang Duy, renowned statistician Mirko Jalava, Head of Strategic Engagement at Atos Fabrice Doreau as well as the founder and CEO of Roster Athletics Christian Birk.

Another highlight of the e-Convention is the inaugural Athletes Forum on 14 October. The Forum is aimed at international athletes and any athlete who wishes to take part but is yet to register is welcome to do so before Monday by following this link and filling out the registration form.

The Athletes Forum is split over four sessions and confirmed speakers include reigning Olympic and European javelin champion Thomas Rohler on branding and sponsorship while world medallists Hannah England and Periklis Iakovakis will talk about the significance of Athletes Representation bodies.

Now the CEO of World Athletics, Jon Ridgeon will also track his path from being a world medallist in the 110m hurdles to landing one of the most influential and important roles in global athletics.

The impact of coronavirus will also be a common theme throughout the e-Convention. The Athletes Forum will also include a medical perspective of the current situation as well as an update on the Torun 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Looking slightly further ahead in 2021, the IOC Athlete Relations and Engagement department will share the insights of Athletes Services planned for the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The second day programme also includes a session on event management during coronavirus with a variety of case studies from meeting organisers and Member Federations on their national competition models during the time of a pandemic. Speakers include Czech Athletic Federation President Libor Varhanik and Bislett Games meeting organiser Steiner Hoen.

The e-Convention will also be highlighted by keynote speeches delivered in Lausanne by World Athletics President Sebastian Coe and European Athletics Interim President Dobromir Karamarinov.

There will be day-to-day coverage of the e-Convention next week on the European Athletics website.
