With just three weeks to go to the IAAF World Championships Doha 2019, the countdown is on for Europe’s top athletes as they seek global glory.

In London two years ago, European athletes won 18 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze medals so the continent-wide target is simple, to beat that figure, with many athletes using The Match next week in Minsk as their final competitive outing before fine-tuning their preparations ahead of Doha.

Many of Europe’s top athletes, especially those with gold medal aspirations, will have perhaps think they will have experienced everything there is to see on the international circuit, from hotels to call rooms to tracks and stadium but unless they competed at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Doha back in May they are in for a shock because, for the first time ever, an IAAF World Championships will take place on a pink track.

The Khalifa International Stadium is one of the few in the world to have a competition surface of that colour.

The colour of the Mondotrack WS surface was agreed between European Athletics Green Inspiration Partner Mondo and the local organisers as the Doha 2019 wanted to add their own individual stamp on the championships.

Mondo was happy to help out, although opting for an out-of-the ordinary colour scheme may not be to every championship organiser’s taste or pocket, as adding additional dyes also adds additional time and cost to the production process.

However, Mondo was able to personalise its prefabricated surface that was to be installed to match the look and feel of the event, whilst assuring its traditional uniform, biomechanical response over the entire track surface.

“In January 2018, we completed the installation of our Mondotrack for the main and warm-up tracks at Khalifa International Stadium. We are proud to be part of the transformation of the biggest stadium in Qatar, contributing to its improvement with our track surface,” said Mondo Sport Division Manager Maurizio Stroppiana.

“Further to the innovative look and feel of the colour, the surface is Greenguard Gold, certified for its low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions. We believe Mondotrack WS will contribute to the look, to the performances and to the sustainability of the IAAF World Championships Doha 2019.

“We are proud to be part of the transformation of the stadium, which is the first in the world to be awarded a four-star rating from the Global Sustainability Assessment System,” added Stroppiana.
