World 400m hurdles champion Karsten Warholm will contest both the 400m and 400m hurdles at the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships from 7-12 August.

Warholm leads the 2018 European lists in his specialist event by a sizeable margin with 47.65 ahead of reigning champion Yasmani Copello from Türkiye who has clocked 48.31 this year. He is also sixth fastest in the 400m with 45.14, his only race on the flat this summer.

Warholm contested both the 400m and 400m hurdles at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Bydgoszcz last summer and he almost pulled off the double, winning silver in the 400m final before gold in the 400m hurdles. Warholm raced six times in four days in Bydgoszcz but the timetable in Berlin is much more accommodating.

He will also receive automatic qualification into the semifinals in both events by virtue of being ranked inside the top-12 on the 2018 season’s lists.

For the first time, all three Ingebrigtsen brothers will be on the same team for a major championships. Filip and Henrik won gold and bronze respectively in the 1500m at the 2016 European Championships while Jakob arrives fresh from winning medals in the 1500m and 5000m at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere.

All three brothers will be contesting both the 1500m and 5000m in Berlin. Filip leads the 2018 European 1500m lists with 3:30.01, Henrik leads the 2018 European 5000m lists with 13:16.97 and 17-year-old Jakob has smashed the long-standing European U20 1500m (3:31.18) and 5000m (13:20.97) records this summer.

Sondre Nordstad Moen was initially planning to contest the 10,000m in Berlin but he has opted for the marathon instead, the event in which he holds the European record. Moen made a huge breakthrough in the Fukuoka Marathon last December, breaking the tape in 2:05:48 (63:19/62:29) to become the first European athlete to break the 2:06-barrier for the distance.

Other standout names on the Norwegian team include Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal in the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m, Isabelle Pedersen in the 100m hurdles and Amalie Iuel in the 400m hurdles.
