Hello and welcome to the new European Athletics website.

We hope you like what you see.

It is a brand new site from top to bottom, so it’s probably a good idea to start by giving you a quick users’ guide of the what, where and why:

Main navigation bar

Along the top from left to right, we run links to the most popular areas of the website: Calendar, Results, Events & Meetings and Records & Lists.

We have added a European Athletics link along the top, where you can find information on our President, Council, Commissions, Head Office, History, Values, and Congress, Convention, Programmes & Projects, Honours & Awards, Event Bidding and Medical & Antidoping activities.

We also have drop-down menu that emphasises that we are made up of the 50 European Athletics Member Federations.

Of course, we are nothing without the Athletes, so we bring them to the centre of the main navigation bar.

Then there is a link to the Athletics Community – which represents different groups of people linked to our sport who we serve in different ways.

Channels

Above the main navigation bar, we have grouped together all the different channels we use to give you information about European Athletics: News, Photos, Videos, Social, Mobile.

The Social link, for example, brings together all our different social media accounts in one place.

Focus on & Trending

These quick links will take you to topical events, sections or athletes that we want to remind you of or that are proving popular with visitors.

Body of homepage

Here you find the four main topics of the moment at the top, alongside the latest European results and above our upcoming European Athletics events and meetings.

Further down, we showcase some more of what we do outside of managing our events. At the moment, we are highlighting our different Programmes & Projects in the areas of Coaching, Sustainability and Antidoping, our Event Bidding process and what we are doing in the area of Women’s Leadership.

Along the bottom, we provide some quick links to other different areas of the site that are useful.

Summary

We have a long way to go until the website is completely finished.

For now, we are happy to present the first stage of development.

Future stages will see the new website provide live results from all our major events.

We will use a live blogging tool during events that brings together all the best news, photos, videos, statistics and social media into one place.

Through our website, we aim to use in a more user-friendly and accessible way the huge amount of statistics that make our sport so rich.

In these ways, we can improve the “second-screen” experience of the traditional television fan of athletics and also connect with new fans.

We know of course that more and more website traffic is coming from mobile devices.

That’s why our new website is, design-wise, a responsive one: you can view it on computer, tablet, mobile phone, and everything will fall into place for you.

We realise that a sports federation website needs to have something for everybody: our Member Federations, fans, athletes, officials, media, local organising committees.

It’s a bit of a balancing act, so if you think something is missing, or you just want to tell us what is good or bad about the new site, please write to us at [email protected].

For now, though, we just want to say once again welcome to the new website.

We hope you stay for a while and have a look around!
