Work is underway on the construction of the new European Athletics headquarters.

The car park next to the current offices in Lausanne, Switzerland, on which the new headquarters will be built, has become a hive of activity over the past few weeks.

Construction of the four-floor building is expected to be completed mid 2016.

European Athletics will use the first two floors for its new offices, with the top two floors to be rented out. The building will also have underground parking and an archive area dedicated to European Athletics on two basement floors.

Anticipating the expansion and development of the operational activities of the organisation and to secure its long-term future, the European Athletics Council agreed in 2013 to purchase the car park next to the current rented offices in order to build a new headquarters.

The piece of land has a surface area of 615 metres squared. The total office space will be 916 metres squared.

European Athletics is paying particular attention to the construction of a sustainable building that minimises the impact on the environment. There will be a connection to the central heating system from the City of Lausanne that produces energy through the burning of waste. The roof will be fully vegetated, with extra energy production generated through a 50-metre squared photovoltaic collector on the roof. There will also be an air-refreshment system and no air-conditioning system.

The offices will be located just a 400-metre walk from Lausanne main station.

A webcam will be set up from next week on the European Athletics website to follow the development project.
