Pahlevanyan and Zhukovskaya shine at the Emmiyan Cup | 20.09.2011
Local star Vardan Pahlevanyan won the men’s long jump title at the 10th Emmiyan Cup in Artashat, Armenia, last weekend.
With his final round leap of 8.00m, Pahlevanyan not only won the title but also equalled the championships records at the event named after the legendary Armenian long jumper Robert Emmiyan.
Robert Emmiyan, the current president of Armenian athletics federation, still holds the European long jump record of 8.86m that he achieved while representing the former Soviet Union in Tsakhkadzor in May 1987.
The meeting dedicated to long jump attracted athletes from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Moldova, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Cyprus, Lithuania, and Bulgaria.
Lithuania’s Mykolaitis Povilas took the second place with a jump of 7.98 while Kirill Agoev of Kazakhstan completed the podium with a jump of 7.71m.
In the women’s competition, Oxana Zhukovskaya of Russia took the first place with a best effort of 6.58m. Magdalena Hristova of Bulgaria claimed the second place jumping 6.24 while another local star Amaliya Sharoyan took third place with a 6.18m jump.
