Ivan Ukhov clears world-leading 2.37m in Opole | 07.06.2012
Russia's 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships gold medallist Ivan Ukhov cleared 2012 world-leading 2.37m at the 7th annual special high jump meeting in the Polish town of Opole on Wednesday.
He went on to unsuccessfully attack a Russian record height of 2.41m.
It was also an outdoor personal best for Ukhov, who has gone over 2.40m indoors, and his previous outdoor best of 2.36m was achieved also here in Opole in 2010.
Czech record holder Jaroslav Baba, who got the silver medal behind Ukhov in Paris was second again behind his familiar Russian rival, clearing 2.24m, while Poland's Piotr Sleboda also went over 2.24m but had to settle for third place.
Poland's 21-year-old Izabela Mikolajczyk, better known as a heptathlete and 10th at last year's European Athletics U23 Championships, started the day with a best of 1.87m but had a competition to remember as she twice improved on that mark and won the women's competition when she was the only jumper to go over 1.92m.
