Chernova on her battle with injuries and triumphs in 2012 | 22.09.2012

Double Olympic medallist, Russia's Tatyana Chernova, has been talking about her injury prone season where, despite only finishing second in Goetzis and third in the Olympics, she still managed to win the overall IAAF Combined Events Challenge title in 2012.

"I'm so glad that this season is finally over," said Chernova. "Olympic year is difficult enough in itself, but then there have been all these injuries. The first events in Goetzis showed that I was in shape and that I was ready for anything, but my injury would not all me to go for the gold medal at the Olympics. In the end I was happy I could fight for the bronze medal. Well, at least the season ended with a victory in the IAAF combined events challenge.

"All month I went to the doctor's to get the elbow back into shape with various treatments. The pain has not gone yet. Now I want to consult foreign experts. I know what our doctors think, now I want to know the opinion of foreign doctors. Although I don't think surgery is required."

With the close season finally here for the 24-year-old, she is now making plans for a holiday: "I have wanted to visit Cuba for a long time. Now I am going to prepare plans for a trip. Why Cuba exactly? I have been in many corners of our planet. But I have never managed to fly to the Americas or Australia. So Cuba is a land where I have never set foot. Many of my friends have had a holiday there and they have told me a lot of things about it. So now it's time to visit all these interesting places."
