Obergföll beats Rebryk at Spitzenleichtathletik meeting in Luzern | 18.07.2012
|Christina Obergföll of Germany won the javelin event at the
Spitzenleichtathletik meeting in Luzern, Switzerland, on Tuesday.
Russian Olga Kucherenko, a silver medallist at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, leaped to 6.83m in the long jump to beat a very strong field headed by world champion Brittney Reese of the USA 6.77m and her compatriot Janay DeLoach 6.64m.
American Ginnie Crawford won a high quality 100m hurdles race clocking 12.61 (+0.7), European champion Nevin Yanit of Turkey finished second in12.73 and both Kellie Wells and Kristi Castlin ran identical time of 12.79 to take the third place.
In the B 100m hurdles race, Beate Schrott delighted Austrian fans with a new national record of 12.82. Schrott, who finished just out of the medals in Helsinki, finished just 0.04 behind the Belgian Anne Zagre (12.79), who also set a national record.
Ukrainian hammer thrower, Oleksyi Sokyrsky, registered an easy win with a throw of 78.66m ahead of Poland's Szymon Ziolkowski 75.57m.
