German hurdler Carolin Nytra has had to withdraw from the World Indoor Athletics Championships after suffering an Achilles tendon problem.
Nytra is the fastest European woman in the 60m hurdles this year, having run 7.89 at the German Indoor Championships last weekend.
"She had a medical examination on Monday and the doctor has recommended that Carolin should not go to the World Indoor Championships. This is very unfortunate because her recent results show that Carolin could have been a strong contender for a medal," said the German federation sports director Thomas Kurschilgen.
Nytra is currently ranked fourth in the world. The World Indoor Championships will be held in Doha, Qatar, between March 12-14.
