Yelena Isinbaeva of Russia shows her disappointment after being
eliminated from the women's Pole Vault final.
Russia's Svetlana Feofanova claimed silver in the women's Pole Vault at the IAAF World Indoor Championships on Sunday as compatriot Yelena Isinbayeva missed out on the medals at a major championships for the second-straight time.

Poland's outdoor world champion Anna Rogowska claimed the bronze medal for another excellent continental performance - Brazil's Fabiana Murer won gold - but it was the performance of Isinbayeva that stunned the crowd.

"I really don't know what happened," said Isinbayeva. "I do not have an answer for that. Maybe I was too tired emotionally. It sometimes happens.

"It looks like the years 2009 and 2010 are bad for me. But I will always try to do my best and please the crowds. I hope in the summer world records will come."

The Olympic champion, who no-heighted at the outdoor worlds in Berlin in August 2009, confidently cleared 4.60m at her first attempt before skipping 4.65 and 4.70 to have a go at 4.75. But Isinbayeva hit a brick wall and failed to clear the height to the dismay of her and the crowd.

Murer cleared 4.80m at her first attempt, while Feofanova did it on her second attempt. Both then failed all attempts at 4.85m, putting Feofanova in the silver-medal position.

"I'm back!" said Feofanova. "There were many who didn't have trust in me after my injuries, but I hope with this medal I have changed their minds.

"I still have five metres as my goal in the future but silver is great for me in this tough competition."

Rogowska cleared 4.70 at the second attempt before failing three times at 4.75m, leaving Murer and Feofanova to fight it out.

Rogowska said, "I had a good indoor season with a national record of 4.81m and now the bronze. It was  a good competition and I am happy with the bronze.

"Yes I am outdoor world champion but indoor everything is different. I prefer outdoors as the indoor season is too short for me."
