European Athletics-UNESCO Young Leaders Forum gets underway | 27.06.2012
The 2012 European Athletics-UNESCO Young Leaders Forum got underway on Tuesday with speeches from European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz, Elizabeth Longworth, Deputy Assistant Director General of UNESCO, Antti Pihlakoski, President of the Finnish Athletics Federation, and Mrs Tuija Talvitie, Executive Director of Finland based Crisis Management Initiative (CMI).
The forum runs from 25 to 28 June at the Kisakallio Sports Institute, just outside of Helsinki, and is supported by the organising committee of the 2012 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki.
Addressing more than 72 young participants from across Europe, Talvitie spoke about how sport can contribute to social development and assist with reconciliation in post-conflict situations at the opening ceremony of the forum at the main auditorium of YLE, the Finnish national broadcasters, in Helsinki.
