Estonia's Magnus Kirt surpassed the 90-metre line twice in June, including setting a world lead of 90.61m in Kuortane

Estonia’s Magnus Kirt and Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam were voted men’s and women’s European Athletes of the Month for June as nearly 30,000 votes were cast across European Athletics’ Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Kirt scored 4475 votes in the men’s voting ahead of Norway’s Karsten Warholm (4425 votes) while Thiam accrued 3574 votes on the women’s side ahead of Mariya Lasitskene with 3302 votes.

Kirt had arguably the best month of his career thus far, surpassing the 90 metre-line for the first time with 90.34m in Ostrava before extending his world lead and Estonian record to 90.61m less than 48 hours later in Kuortane.

On the women’s side, Thiam’s bid to surpass the 7000 points-barrier in Talence was undone in the late stages by an elbow injury but the Belgian still scored a world-leading 6819 points. Thiam improved her world high jump heptathlon best to 2.02m on the first day and also set a Belgian record of 6.67m on the second day.
