Senior men's race at the Albufeira 2017 ECCC Cross Country

Final entries for this year’s European Champion Clubs Cup Cross Country, which will be staged in the Portuguese town of Mira on Sunday 4 February, are now available here.

The ECCC Cross Country, to give the event its widely-used abbreviated name, will celebrated its 55th edition this year, and is the second oldest regional cross country competition in the world after being inaugurated in 1962.

Istanbul BBSK and Uskudar Belediye will defend their team titles after their unique double in 2017, the first time Turkish clubs had won both the senior team gold medals.

Notable entries among the men’s runners include Spain’s Ayad Lamdassem, competiting for three-time champions Atletismo Bikila, who is a very familiar face in this event after having won the individual race three times in 2008, 2011 and 2012 and finishing second on another four occasions.

His colleagues in the Atletismo Bikila team include Daniel Mateo, eighth at the Samorin 2017 SPAR European Cross Country Championships.

Istanbul BBSK have 2016 individual winner Bekir Karayel in their team while Belgium’s Olympic Essenbeek Halle are represented, among others, by the 2016 European U23 cross country champion Issac Kimeli.

Sporting Clube Lisboa have named a very strong team which features well-known Portuguese internationals Jessica Augusto, Ines Monteiro Sara Moreira and Carla Salome Rocha while six-time team winners Uskudar Belediye can call on Esma Aydemir and Emine Hatun Tuna.
