Excellent line-up assembled for inaugural European Shot Put Conference

The inaugural European Shot Put Conference takes place in Tallinn, Estonia from 8-10 November 2019 and will be highlighted by lectures and practical demonstrations from some of the most renowned athletes and coaches associated with the event.

Two of the names who have confirmed their participation at the first event of the 2019 European Athletics Coaching Summit Series are multiple world and European champion David Storl and his coach Wilko Schaa.

Storl is one of the most renowned gliders and they will be giving a keynote speech all about the glide technique. They will also take part in a practical session along with theoretical lectures on planning and technique.

The keynote speaker for the rotational technique is Dale Stevenson, coach of reigning world indoor and outdoor champion Tom Walsh from New Zealand. Stevenson, who represented Australia in the shot put at the 2012 Olympics, will share his knowledge both in practical and theoretical sessions.

The conference line-up also includes one of the greats of the throwing world - Jean-Pierre Egger - who coached Werner Gunthor and more recently Valerie Adams to so many accolades and major titles over the decades.

Vesteinn Hafsteinsson from Iceland will be the presenter for the rotational technique in women’s shot putting. He will lead both practical and theoretical sessions with his athlete Fanny Roos who holds the Swedish record in the event.

The conference includes a total of eight lectures and four training demonstrations over the three days as well as opportunities to socialise and network with like-minded individuals.

The European Shot Put Conference is organised by the by Estonian Athletic Federation and Global Throwing and is the first of five events to make up the 2019 European Athletics Coaching Summit Series.

The European Athletics Coaching Summit Series has taken place annually since 2008 and remains a key pillar of European Athletics’ coaching strategy.
