The 55th PTS Meeting in Samorin, Slovakia on Friday (11) will see Belarusian high jumper Maksim Nedasekau attempt to extend his outdoor unbeaten streak to four meetings and also improve on his world-leading 2.33m cleared on home soil in Minsk last month.

The reigning European U23 champion, who was fourth at the World Athletics Championships in Doha last October, ventured into international competition for the first time this summer in Ostrava, Czech Republic on Tuesday, where he won but had to settle for victory with a relatively modest 2.24m.

Nedasekau’s main rival could be the recently crowned Polish champion Norbert Kobielski, with whom he is well acquainted after the latter finished third in Gavle last summer.

Samorin is a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting and the penultimate event in this tier in Europe this summer, on the calendar ahead of the famous ISTAF meeting in Berlin on Sunday.

The 100m, the final event of the meeting, is sure to grab plenty of local attention as it features Slovakia’s 2019 European indoor 60m champion Jan Volko as well as the 2020 Dutch champion Taymir Burnet and Czech record holder Jan Veleba.

In the women’s events, the 400m hurdles features Slovakia’s rapidly improving 20-year-old Emma Zapletalova, who has improved her national 400m hurdles by more than a second this year and ran 55.19 to win her national title and go second on the 2020 world list just over a week ago.

She will face Denmark’s 2016 European champion Sara Slott Petersen from Denmark as well as 2019 world championships finalist Anna Ryzhykova from Ukraine.

US triple jump star Christian Taylor will also be in action in Samorin and is in fine form in the wake of his world-leading 17.46m in Ostrava on Tuesday. Germany’s 2016 European champion Max Hess, who has returned to jumping over 17 metres outdoors again for the first time since 2017 after seeing subsequent summers marred by injury problems, is also in the field.

Slovakia’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games 50km race walk champion Matej Toth will sharpen up his speed with an outing over 3000m on the track.
