Konrad Bukowiecki only managed one creditable throw on his season’s debut at the TVP Sport Cup in Warsaw on Thursday (18) evening but his fourth round throw of 20.92m was enough to seal victory over European indoor and outdoor champion Michal Haratyk.

Competing in the first of six events which forms the TVP Sport Cup schedule, Bukowiecki started his series with two no-throws before a valid but tentative third round effort of 18.31m. After amassing back efforts of 20.49m and 20.54m, Bukowiecki trailed Haratyk by more than two metres at this juncture of the competition but Bukowiecki usurped his domestic counterpart with his winning fourth round mark of 20.92m.

“The beginning was a bit nervous, but I felt really good. 20.92m is a nice result, especially after such a strange time. I just came back from a training camp in Karpacz, the first normal camp in a dozen or so weeks. In these circumstances, therefore, I cannot be unhappy with the result I achieved,” said Bukowiecki.

The TVP Sport Cup was launched earlier this week and serves the dual purpose of giving Polish athletes competitive opportunities as well as offering live sport to the public. It will be the turn of the pole vaulters to compete next Thursday and both Piotr Lisek and Pawel Wojciechowski have confirmed their participation.

Sagnia eclipses world lead in Molndal

The Swedish summer season resumed last weekend with some outstanding performances in the throws and Khaddi Sagnia produced another significant performance in her first outdoor long jump competition of the season.

Making the most of the conditions in Molndal and a benign 1.8 m/s tailwind, Sagnia reached out to 6.81m in the long jump to break her outdoor lifetime best by three centimetres and eclipse Ivana Spanovic’s early season world leading mark of 6.80m.

Sagnia, who missed the majority of the 2019 season with a knee injury, also produced valid efforts of 6.70m and 6.71m.
