For the fourth consecutive year, European Athletics is pleased to be a Global Supporter of Global Running Day on Wednesday 5 June, a grassroots project initiated by New York Road Runners (NYRR) for people of all abilities and backgrounds to come together and celebrate their passion for running and inspire others to get moving.

As part of this initiative, European Athletics are inviting you to celebrate Global Running Day – athletes, clubs, runners and anyone involved with the global running community – by pledging to run with us next Wednesday (5 June).

You can create your team or join European Athletics Your Sport for Life team which is running in Lausanne, where the headquarters of European Athletics is based, and help build what is already a considerable buzz going by using Global Running Day toolkits filled with printable assets you can use for your start bibs and while communicating on the Global Running Day.

As part of these global efforts, the Million Kid Run will aim to have million kids around the world pledge to run on 5 June.

The Million Kid Run is about making fitness fun and inspiring kids to embrace running as a way to get moving and stay healthy. Schools, coaches, and parents can sign up their children and pledge on GlobalRunningDay.org.

Last year, more than 282,500 people from 161 countries pledged to run 11.2 million miles on Global Running Day.

An example of what can be done, and many of European Athletics’ 51 Member Federations have similar events, the Italian athletics federation FIDAL have organised a ‘Kids Mile Run’ next Wednesday.

They are celebrating Global Running Day by staging a non-competitive race one mile event in the ‘Foro Italico’ Park, which is close to the city’s historic Olympic Stadium, involving over 500 kids.

To engage socially with Global Running Day, runners can take part in the conversation by using the hashtag #GlobalRunningDay hashtag.

Global Running Day is part of European Athletics’ Running For All programme.
