  • Voting is open for European Athlete of the Month: April 2018

The European Athlete of the Month voting for April is underway across our Twitter and Facebook pages.

The voting closes at 12:00 CET on Saturday 5 May. You can cast your vote on Twitter by retweeting the graphic of the athlete for whom you wish to vote for or by liking or sharing the corresponding graphic on Facebook. You can also vote for more than one athlete. Please note: only likes and retweets cast on the original image will be counted. Likes and retweets cast on any quoted or shared image will not be counted.

The votes across Twitter and Facebook are combined in order to decide who will be named male and female European Athlete of the Month.

Five male and five female athletes are nominated purely based on their performances in the previous month. However, no athlete who has served a two-year doping ban can be nominated for the award.

The European Athlete of the Month initiative was launched in January 2007 and is designed to recognise outstanding performances set by European athletes.

Last month's winners were Germany’s world javelin champion Johannes Vetter and Hungarian shot putter Anita Marton. Vetter shattered the championship record at the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal with a world-leading 92.70m while Marton won her first global title at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham before defending her European Throwing Cup title the following weekend.
