It's exactly 600 days until the start of the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships, to be held from 7-12 August 2018 as part of the inaugural multi-sport 'European Championships' event.
Early release tickets have been on sale since the closing of the Rio Olympics Games and 25,000 have been sold so far.
Dr. Clemens Prokop, President of the German Athletics Federation and chairman of the supervisory board of Berlin 2018, said, “The enthusiasm for athletics in Germany coupled with the attractiveness of the city of Berlin will guarantee the success of the 2018 European Athletics Championships in the Olympic Stadium.
“Anticipation is mounting within the federation, and the local organising committee is already hard at work to ensure that this event will be a remarkable success.”
The European Championships will bring together the existing championships of the continent’s leading sports into one multi-sport event to create a must-watch, must-attend experience that aims to elevate the status of European champions.
Along with Athletics in Berlin, the continental swimming, gymnastics, cycling, rowing, triathlon and golf championships will be held in Glasgow from 1-12 August with the championships brought together with a centralised timetable.
The sports will benefit from an enhanced offer from the European Broadcasting Union, the broadcast partner, with a potential audience of approx. 1.03 billion viewers (plus more through multiple digital platforms) and 2,700 hours of free-to-air programming.
This means a more compact timetable has been created for the European Athletics Championships with all evening sessions expected to take place between 18:30 and 22:00.
Frank Kowalski, Managing Director of the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships, said, “The schedule is compact and clear for both TV viewers and stadium spectators. The new condensed programme has been structured to allow for sponsors to receive greater visibility and to provide greater value for broadcasters.”
