European Athletics is proud to support the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games taking place in Los Angeles from 25 July to 2 August.

The Games are held every two years with 7,000 participating athletes from around the world with intellectual disabilities competing in 26 sports including athletics.

European Athletics Director General Christian Milz expressed the importance of promoting the Special Olympics as part of the partnership that was signed between the organisations in 2011.

“The World Summer Games give the athletes a chance to demonstrate their strength and courage by developing physical fitness and sharing experiences,” said Milz.

'These strong values of inclusion and the desire to set high targets for oneself are shared by European Athletics,' he added.

Special Olympics International, formed in 1968, is the world's largest sport programme of year-round sport-training and athletics competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
